Philanthropic Gifts to Boost Psychedelic Research and Awareness

Berkley’s Center for the Science of Psychedelics (BCSP), University of California, received over 7 million in funding from 5 philanthropic gifts. This money will be used to initiate novel research on the effects of psychoactive compounds. It also intends to spread public awareness regarding the therapeutic aspect of psychedelics.

About BCSP

According to the BCSP’s inaugural director, Michael Silver, the funds will allow the institution to research and assimilate a reliable source of information on the various properties of psychedelics. BCSP now has the potential to become a world leader in public awareness and scientific information regarding psychedelics.

Deploying an interdisciplinary approach, Berkeley will collaborate with neuroscientist, educators, psychologists and journalists to make the most of this opportunity. To begin with, the research will focus on the hidden mechanics of cognitive and neural activities induced by psychedelics on animals as well as human volunteers.
