Psychedelics are known to be safe and help people explore their spirituality, according to a new study. The study, conducted by the University of Southern California, found that psychedelic drugs can help people connect with their inner feelings and find spiritual truth.
"Our research shows that some people who use psychedelics report substantial spiritual and personal benefits," said study author Katherine McAfee. "These drugs may allow people to address personal issues in a more comprehensive way, and they could lead to increased self-awareness and insight."
The study surveyed 116 participants who reported using psychedelics at least once in their lives. Participants were asked about their experiences with the drugs, what they learned from them, and how they've changed as a result. Nearly half of the participants said that using psychedelics had helped them connect more deeply with their emotions and learn more about themselves.
"Psychedelics offer a unique opportunity to look at the mind-body relationship in a new way," said McAfee. "They may be able to provide insight into some of the underlying causes of mental health issues and addiction."
The study was published in the journal JAMA Psychiatry.
