Ultimate Guide to Tame Impala

If you are a fan of psychedelic rock, indie pop, or synth-pop, chances are you have heard of Tame Impala. The Australian musical project, led by multi-instrumentalist and producer Kevin Parker, has been making waves in the music scene since 2007. Tame Impala has released four studio albums, two live albums, and several EPs and singles, earning critical acclaim and a loyal fanbase. But what makes Tame Impala so unique and appealing? How did they evolve from a garage band to a global phenomenon? And what can we expect from them in the future? In this ultimate guide, we will explore the history, influences, style, and achievements of Tame Impala, as well as some of their best songs and albums.

History

Tame Impala was born in Perth, Western Australia, where Kevin Parker grew up listening to his father's Beatles records and playing drums in various bands. He started recording his own music in his bedroom, using a drum machine, a guitar, and a four-track recorder. He named his project Tame Impala, inspired by the African antelope and his love of cars. He uploaded some of his demos to MySpace, where he caught the attention of Modular Recordings, an independent label that signed him in 2008.

Parker recruited some of his friends to form a live band, including Dominic Simper on guitar and synth, Jay Watson on drums and synth, Nick Allbrook on bass, and later Cam Avery on bass and vocals. The band released their debut EP, Tame Impala, in 2008, followed by their first full-length album, Innerspeaker, in 2010. The album was praised for its retro sound, influenced by 60s and 70s psychedelic rock bands like Pink Floyd, Cream, and The Flaming Lips. It also showcased Parker's distinctive vocals, which have been compared to John Lennon and George Harrison.

Tame Impala's second album, Lonerism, came out in 2012 and was even more successful than their first. It featured more synth-pop elements and a more introspective and personal lyrical theme. The album was nominated for several awards, including the Grammy for Best Alternative Music Album. It also spawned the hit singles "Elephant" and "Feels Like We Only Go Backwards", which became anthems for the indie generation.

In 2015, Tame Impala released their third album, Currents, which marked a significant departure from their previous sound. The album was heavily influenced by disco, funk, R&B, and electronic music, as well as artists like Daft Punk, Michael Jackson, and Prince. Parker played all the instruments and produced the album himself, creating a more polished and sophisticated sound. The album received rave reviews from critics and fans alike, and won several awards, including the ARIA for Album of the Year. It also featured some of their most popular songs to date,

such as "Let It Happen", "The Less I Know the Better", "Eventually", and "New Person,

Same Old Mistakes".

In 2020, after a long wait, Tame Impala released their fourth album,

The Slow Rush. The album was recorded in various locations around the world,

including Los Angeles, Malibu, London, Paris, and Parker's home studio in Fremantle. The album explored themes of time, nostalgia, mortality, and change. It also incorporated elements of house, techno, soul, and glam rock. The album was well-received by critics and fans alike. It debuted at number one on the Australian charts and number three on the US Billboard 200. It also featured some of their most catchy and emotional songs to date, such as "Borderline", "It Might Be Time", "Lost In Yesterday",and "Breathe Deeper".
